How is the school made accessible to all?

We have wheelchair access for both parents and children, including ramps, platform lifts to some areas of the school and accessible changing/ toilet facilities.

Children and young people with significant hearing loss are supported by specialist Local Education Authority Advisers.  In Sutton this is called the Hearing and Visual Education Service (HaVES).  In Surrey this is called the Physical and Sensory Support Service (PSS).

For children and young people with hearing impairment, we have Portable Soundfield Systems to improve listening conditions in the classroom environment. Portable Soundfield Systems create a more acoustically accessible and inclusive learning environment by ensuring that everyone in the room has equal access to clear and consistent spoken communication.

For children and young people with visual impairment, we provide additional visual resources and enlarged print if needed. The Local Education Authority provides support from the services mentioned above.

We provide a dedicated space for children who may struggle with dysregulation due to sensory overwhelm, anxiety or transition difficulties. These spaces are equipped with calming tools such as weighted blankets, bubble tubes, coloured lighting, sensory body roller, small trampolines or spinning chairs. Sensory spaces help allow children to manage their emotions, improve focus, reduce stress, and be able to return to the classroom better prepared for learning and engaging with their peers.

A range of learning resources such as assistive technology, writing slopes, pencil grips, alternative scissors, balance cushions and alternative recording methods are all available to help children to access learning as needed.

Classrooms and provision is adapted on the basis that what is necessary for some, is useful for all.
